SAT School-wide Vocabulary Program

Why have a school-wide vocabulary program?

In order to perform well in college and in employment, students must have a strong command of the English language. The single biggest indicator of success on the SAT is vocabulary. Half of the questions in the verbal section test vocabulary. To help our students Crossroads Center has implemented a SAT school-wide vocabulary program. Students throughout the school are presented with a new SAT vocabulary word of the day four days a week. On Wednesdays, our student half day, students review the words previously presented. Every tenth day there is a vocabulary assessment. All staff members at Crossroads refer and review the vocabulary words during the week, in morning announcements, during lessons, at lunch and any other times they can work these words in. According to statistics, students must use and see a word at least seven times before it is embedded in their memory. Spending 10-15 minutes a day will improve your student's verbal acumen. Please click at our Word of the  Day list below to see what words we are working on and to help improve your student's vocabulary skills.
