The Crossroads Center is a Baltimore County Public Schools’
alternative program center that provides educational and social/emotional
services to students in grades seven to ten who can benefit
from additional support both academically and behaviorally. Our program focuses
academically on reading and mathematics in the four core subject areas,
reading/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Behaviorally,
the focus is on improving deportment through positive interventions and
supports. This one-year, full-day, program was designed to assist students in
increasing their proficiency in reading and mathematics so they will
successfully complete the requirements needed to earn a high school diploma.
The Crossroads Center is uniquely designed for this program. It
consists of five learning communities. Each community is staffed with 10 adults
to assist all students in progressing in reading, writing, and math through the
four core subject areas. Using high quality curriculum with strong technology
support, students will engage in exploring the content through personal,
community, and world prospectives. The learning communities are supported by
the principal, two assistant principals, counselors, social workers, a pupil personnel worker, a school resource officer, and a school
nurse. After one year and successfully completing this program, students will
return to their home schools with support systems to ensure their continued
academic progress.
